kp
Our example will be the word kp. It is first attested in Royal inscriptions of Merenptah at Karnak. There, the word signals part of the lot brought to the king after a battle.
A later occurrence of ‘kp’ is in the royal inscriptions of Ramesses III at Medinet Habu.
When I searched for the source publication of this inscription, I was surprised to see it was written right next to a pictorial representation of the scene, in which one can see clearly the exact signified of the term ‘kp’ - severed hand(s).
